About ShipCalc

What does ShipCalc do?

ShipCalc is a Shopify app that adds a shipping calculator to product pages, cart pages, and compatible cart drawers. A shopper enters their country and postcode or ZIP, and ShipCalc shows the delivery options and prices your Shopify store would offer for that product or cart, before checkout.

Does ShipCalc replace my Shopify shipping rates?

No. ShipCalc reads the shipping rates, zones, and profiles already set up in Shopify. There is no second rate table to build or keep in sync. When you change a rate in Shopify, the calculator reflects it.

How does ShipCalc get the rates?

When a shopper asks for a quote, ShipCalc asks Shopify for the delivery options available to that product or cart and destination, using Shopify's own Storefront API. The rates shown come from your Shopify shipping configuration, not from a separate calculation.

Which stores is ShipCalc best for?

Stores where shipping cost changes the buying decision: furniture, homeware, bulky or heavy products, auto parts, garden and outdoor products, and stores that ship to several countries or regions. It suits merchants whose Shopify rates are already correct and who want shoppers to see them sooner.

Is ShipCalc a shipping rules engine?

No. ShipCalc displays rates; it does not create, blend, or rewrite them. If you need conditional rate logic, use Shopify's shipping settings or a dedicated rate-rules app, then use ShipCalc to show the result earlier.

Installation and setup

How do I install ShipCalc?

Install ShipCalc from the Shopify App Store. The app opens in your Shopify admin with a short onboarding checklist and one-click links into the Theme Editor for each placement.

Follow the installation guide

Do I need to edit theme code?

No. Product and cart placements are Shopify Theme Editor app blocks, and cart drawer support is an app embed you switch on. Most stores are set up in a few minutes without a developer.

Where can the calculator appear?

On product pages, on the cart page, and inside compatible cart drawers. You can use one placement or all three.

Will it work with my cart drawer?

ShipCalc supports compatible cart drawers and automatically looks for common drawer structures. Every theme builds its drawer differently, so some themes need a custom drawer selector. Send us your theme name and we will help set it up.

Which Shopify themes does ShipCalc work with?

ShipCalc uses standard Online Store 2.0 app blocks, so it works with Dawn, Horizon, Refresh, and most modern Shopify themes. Cart drawers vary by theme and are the part most worth testing during your trial.

Rates and shoppers

What do shoppers need to enter?

Just a postcode or ZIP. There are no state, suburb, city, or street fields to fill in; ShipCalc works out the rest before asking Shopify for rates. The country can be fixed, taken from the shopper's Shopify market, or picked from a short list.

Will the rate match what checkout shows?

ShipCalc uses the same Shopify shipping configuration that checkout uses. Checkout can still differ when the full address, the final cart contents, discounts, or fulfilment location change the result, so checkout remains the final confirmation.

Does it work with carrier-calculated rates and other shipping apps?

ShipCalc shows the delivery options Shopify returns for the cart and destination. Depending on your setup, that can include carrier-calculated rates and rates provided by other shipping apps. Test your exact configuration during the free trial.

Which countries does ShipCalc support?

Any country you ship to in Shopify. You can fix the calculator to one country, follow the shopper's Shopify localisation country, or let shoppers pick from a country selector. You can also hide the calculator for selected countries.

Can shoppers get a quote without a postcode?

Yes. You can make the postcode required, optional, or hidden. In country-only mode, ShipCalc can return an estimate for the chosen country when that fits how your rates are set up.

Can I show only the cheapest rate?

Yes. Show every available rate, only the cheapest, or only the most expensive. Free methods can use your own free-shipping label.

Does it show estimated delivery dates?

ShipCalc can show delivery details when Shopify returns them for a method. Some delivery estimates are only calculated at checkout, so they will not always be available earlier.

What happens when no rate is available?

ShipCalc shows a no-rates message you can reword in the app, for example to point shoppers to your delivery policy or contact page.

Design and customisation

Can I change how the calculator looks?

Yes. Choose a card or minimal layout; set colours, sizes, spacing, and corner radius; rewrite every label and message; and add custom CSS for anything else. A live preview shows changes before they reach your store.

See customisation options

Can it match my theme's fonts?

Yes. ShipCalc can inherit your theme's typography and basic control styles so the calculator looks native to your store.

Can I place it somewhere an app block cannot go?

Yes. For custom layouts, ShipCalc includes a manual placement snippet that renders the calculator anywhere in your theme while keeping your saved settings.

Analytics and privacy

What analytics does ShipCalc provide?

Total quote requests, recent activity, where quotes happen (product page, cart page, or cart drawer), popular postcode and country combinations, the delivery methods shoppers were shown, and any errors.

Explore quote analytics

Does ShipCalc send events to GA4, GTM, or Meta?

Optionally. ShipCalc can send a Calculate Shipping event to Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, and Meta Pixel when those tools are already installed on your storefront. ShipCalc does not install tracking scripts itself.

What shopper data is sent to marketing tools?

Marketing events do not include a shopper's name, email, full address, or cart contents. They describe the calculation: where it happened, the country, and whether a postcode was entered.
